Dale G. Wooldridge, 82, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born July 4, 1938, in Hardin, the son of Herman and Dorothy Murray Wooldridge. Dale married Barbara Ann Scott on December 27, 1959, at Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and she survives.
Dale is also survived by his children, Terri (Phil) Benz of Jacksonville, Doug (Anne Redden) Wooldridge of Vail, Colorado, and Jill (Mark) Evans of Branson, Missouri; five grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin) Hinkle and Laura Benz, both of Jacksonville, Ryan (Jessica Jarman) Benz of Glen Carbon, and Quentin and Ayden Evans, both of Branson, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Mason, and Madison Hinkle, one sister, Elinor (deceased, Wilbur) Vieira of Jacksonville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by one son, Steven, two sisters, Wilmeth (deceased, Eugene) Kessler, Trenna Mae (deceased, Paul) Sauer, Lyle (deceased Lillian) Wooldridge, Wayne (deceased, Ethel) Wooldridge, and Donald, (deceased, Mary Ellen) Wooldridge.
Dale was a 1957 graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended MacMurray College and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. As a building contractor, Dale built hundreds of homes and commercial buildings in the Jacksonville area. In addition, he volunteered countless hours to Habitat for Humanity building homes for those in need in the community. Dale was also a real estate broker and certified appraiser and had served as president of the Jacksonville Board of Realtors.
Dale was a longtime member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church and served as stirmaster for many of the church’s burgoo fundraisers. He was currently an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Dale’s hobbies included raising horses, coaching youth baseball, and volunteering his time and talent. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dale loved his family and displayed it constantly.
A private funeral ceremony will be live streamed at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. The livestream can be viewed at www.airsman-hires.com on the Tribute Wall of Dale’s obituary page. A public graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity.
