Charles Marr, age 87, of Waverly, Il. died early Monday morning (January 11, 2021) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Il.
He was born March 3, 1933 near Modesto, Il. son of the late Edward and Katie Cox Marr.
He married Joan Mathews who survives in Springfield, Il. They divorced and he later married Betty DeLong who preceded him death.
Surviving is a companion, Helen McGarvey of Jacksonville, IL.; his children, Cindy Elliott (Logan) and David Marr (Jill) all of Modesto, Il.; three grandchildren, Dustin Elliott (Kaley) of Modesto, Il., Brandon Elliott of Modesto, Il., and Faith Marr (fiancé Zack Belford) of Waverly, Il.; a great grandson due in May; a brother, Lee Marr (friend Eileen White) of Chatham, Il.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Betty.
Charles was a graduate of Waverly High School where he was active in FFA and farmed south of Waverly for many years where he loved watching and raising cattle. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was an over 50-year member of the Waverly American Legion Post. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge as well as the Knights of Pythias. Charles loved to bowl, square dance and enjoyed mowing and going to the Waverly Senior Center for lunch daily. He also enjoyed drives thru the country with his dog Blackie.
Private services will be held with burial in Waverly East Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Waverly American Legion Post. A Celebration of Life will be held for the public at a later date.
