Betty J. Hoots, 85 of White Hall passed away Tuesday December 29, 2020 in Springfield. She was born February 8, 1935 in Barry, IL the daughter of the late James and Retha Grunden Evans. She married Jimmy K. Hoots April 1, 1950 in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death in 2019, also preceding her were her brothers Ted and James Evans, and sisters Verneal Chipman, Lena Brassfield and Evelyn Ford.
Betty worked for many years at Boyd Hospital in Carrollton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a skill baker, making cakes for many occasions and for many people. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and in recent years she became the family historian following the genealogy wherever it led. She volunteered at the Scott County Nursing Center.
Surviving are her four sons Danny (Barbara) Hoots of Coats, NC, Kenny (Debra) Hoots of White Hall, Steven Hoots of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Mike Hoots of White Hall, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and her sister Linda Harrington of Oregon.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Monday January 4, 2021 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Manchester Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 am until the time of the service at 1. Memorials can be made to the Scott County Nursing Center.
