Tamala Rhea “Tami” Mitchell, 60 of Granite City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at her home.
Tami was born on October 4, 1960 in Belleville, IL and was a safety officer at US Steel for many years. Tami was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and the Order of Franciscans. Tami was a very talented and artistic person who had a special gift of creating crafts and could knit anything. She loved working with her hands, creating diamond paintings and loved music. Especially playing the piano. Tami was of strong catholic faith who loved helping people and enjoyed her many days of spending time with her family. She will be remembered for the love of her family and all the special times they shared together.
Tami is survived by and will be missed by her husband; Louis “Lou” Mitchell Jr., whom she married on July 16, 1983; daughters, Ashley and Levi Romandine of Redwood City, California, Jessica and Anthony Antle of Granite City; her dad, Paul Sanford of Belleville; grandchildren, Mitchell Antle, Cameron Antle, Maia Romandine; sisters, Lendy and Neil Middendorf, Wendy Cunningham and many other close family members and friends.
Tami was preceded in death by her mom, Marian (Clifton) Sanford.
In celebration of Tami’s life a memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Alfred Tumwesigye officiating at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
