Merle Frances Price, age 90, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Cedarhurst in Collinsville, IL. Merle was born on December 25, 1930 in Walnut Ridge, AR, a daughter of the late John Shields and Beulah (McMullen) Shields.

On January 29, 1949, Merle Shields married James Price, the love of her life in Walnut Ridge, AR, and James passed away on May 4, 2015. Merle was a proud homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. She was also a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a friend to many. Merle was a charter and devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. She enjoyed reading her bible and going to church to serve the Lord. Merle never met a stranger and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. Merle will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Merle was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Shields and Billie Shields; sister, Mary Doyle; great-grandson, Ethan Price; and by her son-in-law, Dan Patterson.

She is survived by her loving children, Patti Patterson, David Price and Richard (Leslie) Price all of Granite City, IL; dear brother, Johnnie Shields; proud grandmother to David Price, Melissa Seamster, Aaron Stovall, Andrea Cruse and Megan Stovall; proud great-grandmother to Elijah, Alexis, Jackson, Ellison, Clinton, Abby and Cohen; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, a private visitation and funeral will be held on Thursday at Grace Baptist Church, 2600 Edwards, Granite City, IL, with Pastor Adam Cruse and Pastor Daniel Wilson officiating.

Merle will be laid to rest next to James at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to Grace Baptist Church or American Heart Association.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Cedarhurst in Collinsville, IL and the Vitas Hospice nurses for the loving care given to their mom.
