John Ray Williams, age 88, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side. John was born on December 3, 1932 in Montier, MO, a son of the late John F. Williams and Ruby (Bates) Williams.
John was a Korean War Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army. On December 25, 1952, John married Carmen Thompson, the love of his life in Pocahontas, AR. John retired from Commonwealth as a welder after many years of dedicated service. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. John will be remembered as a devoted family man who loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son in infancy, Larry Williams; and by a daughter, Linda Meador.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carmen Williams of Granite City, IL; loving children, Danny Williams of Granite City, IL, David (Sheila) Williams of Pontoon Beach, IL, Karen (James) McPherson of Hazelwood, MO and Sharon (Wayne Harney) Misukonis of Granite City, IL; son-in-law, Michael Meador of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Doris Walker of Birch Tree, MO; special niece, Kathy Sartin of Birch Tree, MO; proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Faith in the Word Church in Mitchell, IL.
In celebration of his life, a funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church, with Pastor Eddie Linhart officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL.
