An East Alton man is facing a burglary charge in Bethalto.
Leland T. Scoggins, 35, was charged with one count of burglary Wednesday. Police say they were called to Illinois 140 and South Prairie on Tuesday after the victim of a vehicle burglary confronted Scoggins, who fled north toward the 500 block of Park Drive. Police saturated the area and found him in the 100 block of Grace Street. Investigators found more than $1,000 in stolen property.
Associate Judge Neil Schroeder set bond at $40,000. Scoggins is in custody at the Madison County Jail.
“The police department would like to again remind members of our community to keep their vehicles locked when parked and unattended, and to avoid leaving valuables inside of their vehicles such as wallets, purses, firearms or their house/car keys,” Police Chief Mike Dixon said in a release.
