Illinois State Police District 18 will conduct special patrols in Jersey and Macoupin counties in November.
The patrols are aimed at taking enforcement action on driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol and drugs, seat belt violations, distracted driving, and other safety issues.
Substance impairment is a factor in approximately 30 percent of fatal crashes in Illinois, police say. Seat belts are estimated to save about 14,000 lives per year.
The patrols are funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
