While many students have returned to in-person learning, Granite City School District nurses are finding a way to give during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The nurses are joining forces with colleagues from Madison County school districts to assist with COVID-19 vaccinations for public and private educational staff on Saturdays at Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville.
Six nurses are assisting with the vaccinations: Ann Birdsong, Grigsby; Jeanne Burke, Lake Educational Support Services Center; Pat DeZeeuw, Coolidge; Kim Fulbright, Wilson; Laura Hamilton, Frohardt; and Julie Wielgus, Granite City High School.
Sponsored by the Madison County Health Department, educators are receiving the vaccine in coordination with the health department, district superintendents and the Madison County Regional Office of Education.
More than 1,000 doses were given on the opening day for educators on Feb. 13.
