Research toys before buying, consumer group urges

Child’s Play will host its first Holiday Pop-up Toy Shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21,  and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Jacoby Arts Center, 627 E. Broadway in Alton.

The pop-up shop provides two days to shop affordable small brands featuring engaging and educational toys, including puzzles, cars and trucks, books, dolls, and art materials. The average price is less than $20.

Child’s Play has a mission of providing play for children and connection for their grownups. Their plans for the future include a brick and mortar space in Alton featuring a toy shop for ages 0–12 and an indoor playground for children 0–6.

“We want families to have an option to shop quality toys here in Alton,” Child’s Play owner Martha Pfister said. “We are stocking unique toys you won’t see in local box stores.”

Social distance and sanitizing measures will be in place, and shoppers are asked to wear a mask. A selection of items are available in Jacoby’s artists shop.
